- 1990 Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) established the ink painting department, offering studies in traditional Chinese ink painting. They also initiated the "National Unified Ink Painting Examination," divided into six levels, with two levels examined annually over three years. Those who pass are awarded a higher diploma, continuing the educational spirit of Nanyang Fine Arts.

The Nanyang style, viewed as a unique artistic symbolic language, emerged through Chinese immigrant artists immigrating to Nanyang (Malaya, before 1963) in the 1930s and 1940s. These immigrant artists, with a strong foundation in both Chinese and Western art, encountered a new environment of cultural diversity. The convergence and collis
The Nanyang style, viewed as a unique artistic symbolic language, emerged through Chinese immigrant artists immigrating to Nanyang (Malaya, before 1963) in the 1930s and 1940s. These immigrant artists, with a strong foundation in both Chinese and Western art, encountered a new environment of cultural diversity. The convergence and collision of Western artistic new thinking with Eastern spiritual philosophy and ink painting principles gave birth to the first generation of new cultural art in Malaya in the 1950s, which was referred to as the "Nanyang style" by art critics of the time. The second and third generations of Nanyang artists continue to create a new Nanyang style in the 21st century.
南洋風格，一個獨特藝術符號語言的視角，是透過上個世紀三、四十年代的中國移民畫家移民到南洋（馬來亞，1963之前）而形成的。這些擁有深厚中西美術基礎的移民畫家，遇上多元文化差異的新環境，在西方美術新思維與東方精神書畫印哲理的交匯和碰撞下，誕生了五十年代馬來亞第一代新文化藝術，被當時的畫評家玛戈先生評為南洋風格。第二、三代南風者，續創21世紀書畫印南洋新風格。

Developing Nanyang art that integrates the diverse cultures of the local ethnic groups contributes to creating a new artistic style for Malaysia. This promotes unity, consensus, and peaceful coexistence among the country's diverse cultural environment, fostering a multicultural society.
